Chad J. Staggs, Director of Veteran Services, Lipscomb University
Chad J. Staggs is the director of Veteran Services. Staggs oversees the office, as well as our veteran students’ personal, professional, academic and spiritual needs. Focused on the transitional process into the classroom Staggs facilitates, collaborates and provides key leadership connecting university faculty and staff in addition to community partnerships that have a direct impact on veteran student’s success.
Staggs is originally from Winchester, Indiana. A graduate of Lipscomb University with a degree in organizational leadership, Staggs is 21-year veteran of the United States Air Force. As a retired senior non-commissioned officer, Staggs has a diverse scope of experience. In addition to Staggs’ work at Lipscomb he also serves on the education committee for the Nashville Serving Veterans Board, Advisory Council member for the United Service Organization (USO), National Association of Veterans’ Program Administrators (NAVPA) board member and member of the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME).

Dr. Tom Seals, Professor of Biblical Practice & Veterans Chaplain, Lipscomb University
Tom teaches undergraduate Bible courses as well as Biblical ethics and textual studies. He received his BA in Biblical languages from Lipscomb in 1971, his M.T.S. degree from Wesley Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 1976, and his D. Min. degree from Memphis Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN, in 1999. In addition, Tom has completed post-doctoral work in Pentateuchal Studies and in Religion, Politics and Social Issues from Vanderbilt University. He has published Proverbs: Wisdom for All Ages, Sermon on the Mount for Modern Living, and The Quest for Spiritual Maturity. He has served as pulpit minister in Virginia, Tennessee, Colorado, and is now a pivotal leader for the ministry and guidance of veteran and traditional students alike at Lipscomb University. Tom is actively involved with the Instituto Biblica Interamericano in Lima, Peru, serving as International President. Tom and his wife, Barbara, have three children: Amy, Tom Jr. (deceased), and Melanie, along with three grandchildren.
Richard “Dick” Peugeot
Dick Peugeot is a former member of the Lipscomb University Board of Trust having served as Board Secretary and Treasurer. Dick and Mary Ann are the founders of the Peugeot Center for Engineering Service to Developing Communities through which engineering mission trips are conducted in conjunction with Lipscomb’s College of Engineering. An electrical engineering graduate of the University of Tennessee, Dick served as president of Ridge, Inc. an Atlanta company that designed and built custom industrial real-time X-ray imaging systems. While living in Atlanta Dick served as an elder for the Decatur Church of Christ and the Northlake Church of Christ as well as a board member for Greater Atlanta Christian School. Dick has three children and seven children.
Butch Baker, Senior Vice President, HoriPro Entertainment
Butch Baker has lead HoriPro’s Nashville office for over a decade, claiming an impressive track record of success. A Nashville resident since 1979, Butch Baker began his career in music as a recording artist, inking 4 major record deals. His transition to the business side of music came by working as an independent A&R rep for Giant and Sony Records. Ambitiously continuing his love for music and its business, Butch expanded in to music production and song plugging. Finding a true passion for music publishing, Butch was soon running Nashville’s Encore Publishing. With this vast and varied amount of experience under his belt, Butch joined the HoriPro team in 2005. Additionally, Butch attended Tennessee Military Academy, was in ROTC at University of Tennessee Chattanooga and then stationed at Quantico, Virginia with the Marine Corps.
Chris Adams, Investment Advisor, Pinnacle Asset Management & Raymond James Financial Service, Inc.
Chris is an Investment Advisor at Pinnacle Asset Management & Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. He is a graduate of Lipscomb University and received his M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University, where he wrote his thesis about the U.S. Army Chaplaincy in World War II. He also is Chairman of the Inter-American Bible Institute in Lima, Peru and is also a member of the board of directors of the ChristianUrban Development Association in Arequipa, Peru. He and his wife Theresa have 2 daughters
LARRY MCKNIGHT, COLONEL (Retired)
Larry McKnight is a graduate of Columbia State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a major in Training and Supervision. In 2005, Larry was awarded Columbia State Community College’s Alumnus of the year.
Larry spent thirty-two years in the Army National Guard as a part-time and active duty officer. In 1991, he commanded the first provisional unit sent to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm. He retired from military service in 1999.
Following his military career, Larry worked for the City of Lewisburg as the Director of Economic Development for six years. Then in 2006 he was appointed Executive Director of the National Guard Association of Tennessee where he worked until his retirement in 2015.
Larry has served as a city councilman, mayor pro-tempore and Marshall County Commissioner for the 9thCounty District. He is a former President of Rotary and presently serves on the Governor’s Council on Armed Forces, Veterans and Their Families.
Larry and Dianne have two sons and three wonderful grandkids. Their oldest son, Travis, was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq. Jared, the youngest son served two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They attend Church Street Church of Christ where Larry teaches a Veterans Class called God’s Word For Warriors. Recently, Larry and several local veterans organized a Veteran’s Outreach in support of the veterans in Marshall County.
Sidney B. Smith, III, P.E., RLS
“Sid” was raised on a cotton and dairy farm in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School in 1959, and Georgia Tech in 1964 with a BCE. He served in the U.S. Army (First Lieutenant), active duty from 1964-1966 (2 years and 4 months) with a combat tour in Vietnam in 1966 (62nd Engineer Battalion in direct support of the 101st Airborne Division) based at Phan Rang, Republic of Vietnam. He is now employed by Ragan-Smith Associates, Inc. in Nashville for 42 years as an owner, engineer and surveyor. Currently married to Joan Simpson from Watertown, Tennessee for 54 years; two married children and five grandchildren and is a member of Hillsboro Church of Christ; elder for 32 years.
